Forsyth County has been named one of ten counties that can be heralded as the fastest growing counties in the nation. Forsyth is seeing growth not only in population, but in education, recreation, residential and commercial real estate development as well. The 2000 census labeled the population in Forsyth County as 100,000, and by the 2005 census the population had grown to 140,000. Along with the Blue Ridge Mountains, Forsyth has Lake Lanier to enjoy. The 37,000-acre man made lake allows residents to enjoy all kinds of outdoor fun.
Cumming, Georgia, is the Forsyth County seat. In 1834, Cumming was established. Historically significant, Cumming is located in the center of Forsyth County, Georgia, one of the eleven Georgia counties which the Cherokee Indian Nation resided.
As an additional point of historical interest, Forsyth County has two covered bridges which are in excess of 100 years old - Poole´s Mill Covered Bridge built prior to 1838 and Mill Covered Bridge built in 1906.
