Morningside, Georgia Real Estate

A neighborhood reclaimed by its residents.

Morningside is a neighborhood located within the city of Atlanta.  The Morningside neighborhood, which was created in 1931, has had its share of close calls.  In the 1960's the state of Georgia had plans for an interstate that would directly go through Morningside.  The neighborhood successfully banded together and in 1973 saved their homes from the development.  Today neighborhood residents have the power to decide exactly how their community will flourish in the future.

There are over 10 parks located in the neighborhood of Morningside, some of which were created in honor of the 1973 Morningside Neighborhood Association victory.  The Sidney Marcus Park is one of these, and is named after the state senator who helped keep the neighborhood alive.  The Sunken Garden Park is yet another park that can be found within the neighborhood.  What was once a formal rose garden, now includes a play area for children and hosts the yearly Celebration of Summer Festival.

The neighborhood of Morningside really has it all.  With all the advantages of living near the city of Atlanta, such as short drives for commuters, and all the advantages of living outside of it, such as tree-lined streets and three separate schools serving the area, it´s no wonder residents will fight to keep this neighborhood around.  For more information on the Morningside homes for sale, contact Ed Thomasson, your Atlanta area real estate agent.
